What is the cost of a consultation?

All initial consultations are complementary.

What are diagnostic records and why do I need them?

Diagnostic records consist of photographs, several X-rays and orthodontic study models. They are necessary to properly diagnose your case to ensure that the correct method of treatment is being performed.

I think my child's teeth are straight...why does he/she need braces?

While straight teeth are important, it is more important that the teeth fit together properly in order to function most efficiently. Teeth can be straight and yet not fit together well. If your dentist has referred you, it is likely that your bite is not correct and may require orthodontic treatment.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

The average orthodontic treatment takes approximately 2 years. By definition, that means that some treatments will take longer than 2 years and some will be shorter. Patient compliance is generally a key factor in determining the duration of your treatment.

Do braces hurt?

The process of having your braces placed is completely painless. [more on braces, click here »] There is no freezing required, and in fact Dr. Budd doesn't even have a needle in his practice! Your teeth will be a little sore for a few days after initial placement, but before long the discomfort will subside.

My child doesn't even have all of his/her permanent teeth yet...Why should he/she be going to the orthodontist?

While most orthodontic treatment can wait until the permanent teeth are all in, there are a few instances where "Early Treatment" can be beneficial. If Dr. Budd feels your child is not ready for treatment, he will simply place them on recall and see them again at a future date.

How often will I need to visit the orthodontist for adjustments?

Depending on your stage of treatment, your regular visits can be spaced anywhere from 4-6 weeks apart. Emergency appointments (loose brackets, broken wires etc.) happen occasionally and are performed on an as needed basis.

Will I need to wear retainers once my orthodontic treatment is completed?

DEFINITELY... At Budd Orthodontics, the cost of your initial set of retainers is included in the price of treatment. In addition, Dr. Budd will continue to see his patients for a minimum of two years after the braces are removed to make sure that the teeth and bite are stable.
